Gyeonggi Province is home to much of Korea's history and culture,
including numerous historical relics like'Hwasong Fortress' ,
a UNESCO designated World Cultural Heritage Site and preserving
traditions such as producing world-renowned ceramics.
Gyeonggi Province has played host to the 2001 World Ceramic Exposition
and will
host the 2002 World Cup Games.Such international events,along with various
and splendid cultural and tourist resources supported by Gyeonggi Province,
will capture the attention of people around the world.

Restoring Hwasong Fortress and the
Namhan Mountain Fortress Wall
UNESCO designated Hwasong Fortress
as a World Cultural Heritage site and the reputation of Hwasong
Fortress comes not only from this designation,but also from the
buildings that feature highly- developed scientific characteristics
of both East and West.
The Namhan Mountain Fortress Wall played a significant role in
Korea 's history.It is famous for the 45 days in the 17th century
during which a King of the Chosun Dynasty fought against an army
of the Qing Dynasty of China.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Government has already compiled a complete
blueprint for the restoration of these valuable historic sites
by the year 2002.

Gyeonggi Province:Mecca of Ceramics
A Chosun white porcelain jar of
the 17th century was sold for
USD 7.65 million at a Christie's auction in 1996,a record high
in the history of pottery.
A white porcelain dish made at Kwangju in Gyeonggi Province
was successfully auctioned for USD 3.06 million at a Sotheby's
auction in 1994,another example of the world's recognition of
Korean bone china.
Gyeonggi Province,with more than 70%of Korea's ceramic
industry,is planning to utilize the 2001 World Ceramic
Exposition as a venue to regain the glory of being one of the
worldbest ceramic makers.
It also has a plan to create a world-renowned ceramics
sightseeing belt through the cities of Ichon,Yoju and Kwangju.
